After
graduation I attended Ohio State for a couple of semesters. I went
into the
U.S. Army in December 1965; Married my high school
sweetheart (Carla Minardo – Class of ’65) on New Years
Eve 1966 (December 31, 2006 is our 40th anniversary); Graduated from
Officer Candidate School in January 1967 as a 2nd Lieutenant and stationed
in Oklahoma. A year later, Carla and I were transferred to the Panama
Canal Zone for a year. In December 1968, I was promoted to Captain
and sent to Vietnam (Long Binh Post) as a Transportation Company Commander.
I came home a year later and left the Army. Carla and I moved to Houston,
Texas. We lived there for 17 years. I graduated from the University
of Houston, 1972, College of Business – Production & Logistics
Management. We started our own construction company in 1976. We built
several custom homes and townhouse projects in Houston until we moved
back to Columbus (Dublin), Ohio in the summer of 1987 where we continued
building custom homes until the late 1990’s. After over 25 years
in the construction business, I retired in 1998. Our only daughter, Christie, (born in Houston, 1973) went to high
school here in Dublin, married her high school sweetheart after they
both graduated from the University of Kentucky. They have two beautiful
children (Alyssa-4, Chase-2) and live a couple of miles from us.
A
few years ago I was diagnosed with a mild case of MS (Primary Progressive).
It
has slowed me down some, but I’ve been doing
fine with it. I still play golf regularly, go fishing a couple of
weekends a month and haven’t missed a hunting season. Most
importantly, I get to play with our grand kids several times a week.
Life is good.
